Beg for More è il nome del lavoro d’esordio dei Modern Blossom, duo nato nel 2011 a metà strada tra new-dark wave ed electro-pop. L’album – che si può scaricare gratuitamente sul sito del gruppo o ascoltare in streaming su soundcloud – contiene 7 brani.

A Common Poetry e Velvet Shoulders – rispettivamente ad aprire e chiudere Beg for More – sono i pezzi più convincenti. Nel primo l’eredità new wave è immersa in un mare di arpeggi elettronici stile Crystal Castles; nel secondo a dominare è la voce riverberata e distorta. Il resto del disco è pieno di buone intenzioni e “difetti di gioventù”. La title-track è un prodotto grezzo da limare: l’impressione è che ci siano troppi suoni e che i vari elementi non siano ben “sintonizzati” tra loro. Lo stesso si potrebbe dire di A Sickness called Faith. Pur non “spaccando”, Beg for More è un’interessante opera prima. Spetta ai Modern Blossom affinare quanto di buono c’è nell’album.

A Common Poetry and Velvet Shoulders are the best of them. In the first the new wave legacy combines with electro arpeggios in the style of Crystal Castles; in the second the voice – reverberated and distorted – prevails. The rest of the Lp is full of good designs and naïvety. The title-track is a raw material: there are too many sounds and the various elements aren’t balanced. You can say the same about A Sickness called Faith. Beg for More doesn’t rock. However it’s an interesting debut album. Modern Blossom have the task of refining the path begun with that album.

Altro nome nuovo è quello dei Red Button, progetto nato meno di un anno fa. In My Room è l’Ep d’esordio, composto da 5 brani (scaricabile dalla netlabel stato elettrico). Minimo comun denominatore del lavoro è la matrice punk, rivisitata alla luce dell’elettronica dell’ultimo decennio (dall’electroclash alla tech-house fino alla nu-rave più recente).

Il difetto di In My Room – evidente soprattutto in Karma K – è l’incapacità di andare al di là della stagione nu-rave massimalista alla Toxic Avenger, ormai consumatasi.

Il pregio di In My Room è la forza d’impatto dei pezzi. Punkrestein è una bomba a mano che strizza l’occhio alle sonorità (che a ElectroMode, per la verità, non tanto piacciono) dei Cyberpunkers e dei Bloody Beetroots; Walking Dead Trip si riallaccia più al filone Sexinvaders; Shapeshifter ammalia con un intro dark da film horror. Bassi profondi, accenti electro-tech alla Vitalic e distorsioni alla Bloody sono gli ingredienti della traccia.

Red Button is a project born less than one year ago. In My Room is the debut Ep, made up of 5 tracks (you can download it from the netlabel stato elettrico). Its lowest common denominator is the punk background, assimilated through the electro music of the last decade (electro-clash, tech-house, nu-rave).

The defect of In My Room – evident above all in Karma K – is the disposition to stay within a dead and buried nu-rave trend.

The value of In My Room is the energy of the tracks. Punkrestein is a hand grenade, which winks at the sounds of Cyberpunkers and Bloody Beetroots (not among our favourites); Walking Dead Trip refers to Sexinvaders; Shapeshifter begins with a horror movie intro. Deep basses, electro-tech sounds after the manner of Vitalic and distorsions in the style of Bloody Beetroots are the main elements of the track.
